Longmont police continue to investigate the March 24 shooting near Twin Peaks Square, but have no updates to share 10 days later.

Robert Maldonando, 16, died of his injuries after being shot and crashing his car on March 24 at a “car meet up” near the shopping center. Police said on Monday that they are continuing to pursue and follow-up leads in the homicide case.

“We are working in partnership with the Boulder County District Attorney’s office to assure we are completing a thorough investigation,” Spokesperson Robin Ericson said in an emailed statement. “Our focus is on collecting and sorting through pertinent information that will lead to a successful prosecution of the person(s) responsible for this crime and we do not want to share anything that may be detrimental to this goal. Therefore, at this time, we do not have any additional information to provide. “

According to information released by police on March 25, officers responded to a call regarding shots fired around 9 p.m. March 24. The officer identified a suspect vehicle at the car meet up and tried to stop it, at which point a backseat passenger exited the car and ran.

Shortly after that, the communications center received a call that a vehicle struck a pole at Nelson Road and Hover Street. Officers determined that the driver, Maldonado, had been shot.

He was transported to the local hospital and died of his injuries, police said.

Police stated on March 25 that they had identified a suspect of interest and were following up on leads.

Any witnesses who were in the immediate area or had video, and have yet to speak to police, are asked to email Detective Daniel Kilian at [email protected] or call (303)774-3693. Please reference Longmont Police Report #23-2740.
