An incident where two vehicles nearly missed colliding ended in an intense confrontation on Thursday with one driver firing shots at the other.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., a man was driving southbound on Martin St. when a second vehicle – a white passenger van reckoned to be a 2010 Chevrolet or GMC with temporary registration tags – attempted to pass him. The maneuver almost caused the vehicles to collide, according to a Longmont Police report.

Following the near collision, both drivers pulled their vehicles to a stop on the side of the road and exited their vehicles. The driver of the white vehicle began shouting swear words and pulled out a handgun, opening fire in the general direction of the other driver.

The second driver quickly returned to his vehicle and drove away, escaping the scene unscathed. The shooter fled the area, according to Longmont police.

Robin Ericson, the communications and marketing manager of Longmont Police Department, said this incident is a good reminder to not get into a confrontation with another driver.

If you have further information regarding the driver and /or the suspect vehicle, please contact Officer Eric Siburg at 303-774-4300 x2432 and reference Longmont Police Report #22-733.
