LPD High Risk (1 of 1)
Longmont Police served a high risk warrant in northeast Longmont today, near Preston Drive.

A white Dodge pickup truck and an enclosed trailer were stolen from the area of Nelson and Airport roads earlier today. The vehicles were tracked by police to Lafayette where multiple agencies worked together to apprehend the suspect.

The pickup truck was pulling the enclosed trailer, Longmont Police stated in a news release. A male suspect jumped into the truck and drove away.

Around 45 minutes later, a Longmont Police Sergeant saw the truck while heading to a meeting in Louisville.

"Officers from several jurisdictions in unmarked vehicles followed the stolen truck from a safe distance for approximately 30 minutes until the suspect abandoned the vehicle in Lafayette," the news release states.

The suspect fled on foot and was found with the assistance of local K9 units. The suspect was discovered hiding in a backyard shed about a half mile from where the truck was abandoned, according to police.

The suspect has been arrested but has been uncooperative, police said. They are still working to identify the man.

If you witnessed the auto theft at Nelson and Airport Road this morning, please contact Longmont Police Officer Mike Carter at (303)774-4300 x3160 and reference Longmont Police Report #22-11312.
