The Weld County Sheriff’s Office, or WCSO, is asking the public for help to identify a woman suspected of felony eluding. The request for public assistance follows an incident on Monday where the suspect failed to pull over during an attempted traffic stop by police and used dangerous tactics to avoid deputies, according to a WCSO Facebook post.
On Monday afternoon, deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at a gas station on Colo. 119 and Turner Boulevard, east of Longmont, while on routine patrol.
Deputies followed the vehicle as it headed southbound on I-25 after leaving the gas station.
Once on the highway, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield. Instead, the driver maintained an excessive speed and continued driving recklessly, the post states. In the interest of public safety, deputies discontinued their pursuit of the vehicle.
Following the incident, deputies returned to the gas station where they initially located the vehicle and obtained security footage of the suspect entering and exiting the convenience store.
The vehicle is assumed to be a 2009-2014 Nissan Altima. The vehicle was spray painted black — a possible sign of a stolen vehicle, according to the press release. Police weren’t able to make out the license plates.
The woman driving the vehicle is wanted for felony eluding charges, the post states.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or vehicle is asked to call Deputy Matt Tippetts at (970) 400-4326.
