On Saturday afternoon, a Longmont Police Officer conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a man with three outstanding warrants.

While on patrol in Longmont, at approximately 3 p.m., an officer noticed a vehicle bearing a Colorado temporary license plate which had expired in December 2021. The license plate was improperly placed in the vehicle’s back window.

Upon these observations, the officer pulled the vehicle over and advised the driver that the vehicle’s license plate was both expired and improperly placed. The officer then requested to see the required motor vehicle documentation.

The driver supplied a Colorado driver’s license and expired registration. He told the officer he’d have to contact another individual to obtain the updated insurance on the vehicle, according to Robin Ericson, the communications and marketing manager for Longmont Police Department.

Upon further investigation into the incident, the officer learned that one of the vehicle’s other two passengers, a 21-year-old male, had three outstanding active warrants for his arrest in Weld County.

The male was arrested on the scene and transported to the Weld County Sheriff Substation in Firestone. He has since been released to a Weld County Deputy.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a warning and was forced by police to leave the vehicle at the scene as it had no valid plates or current insurance, Ericson said.
