John Maedel resigned from the Weld County Sheriff's office on Wednesday in lieu of termination after being arrested on April 14.

Maedel served as a detective in the Investigations Unit since Oct. 2016.

Maedel was charged with stalking and harassment following his arrest by the Greeley Police Department.

After learning that Maedel had a protection order filed against him the Weld County Sheriff's Office asked the Greeley Police Department to investigate the charges. At the same time the sheriff's office launched an internal investigation, which was still in progress when Maedel resigned.

On Tuesday, the Weld County Sheriff's Office filed official charges against Maedel for one count of felony stalking and two counts of misdemeanor harassment, according to the Weld County Sheriff's Office.
