It would be amusing if it wasn't rather sad to witness Senator Michael Bennet's traveling campaign show in Colorado last month. In tow are two sitting U.S. representatives, Joe Neguse and Jason Crow, who endorsed him from day one. No doubt hoping to fill a vacant senate seat if Bennet’s becomes available next year. And that's a big if.
Attorney General Phil Weiser, also running for governor, has shown time and again his willingness and readiness to stand up and take action against the lawlessness of the Trump administration when it harms us in Colorado. He's winning. And he's not backing down. He knows how our state government works and how it can work better. That's what leaders in public office do.
Michael Bennet wants to quit his job with more than half of his term of office left. His current term ends in 2029. He is willing to cede his seniority and his seat on important committees in the Senate to jump into an environment in which he has no experience.
We elected him to serve six years, not to cut and run when things get hard.
That's not leadership. That's surrender.
Sincerely,
Chuck Lettes
