Of the 10 cheapest gas stations in Colorado on Friday morning, six were in Longmont.

Three more aren’t too much of a drive over in Firestone, with three Longmont and one Firestone gas station all selling gas for less than $3 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.

The 7-Eleven on Colorado 119 had the cheapest gas prices in the state as of Friday morning at $2.89 a gallon. The Phillips 66 nearby had prices at $2.94 a gallon, with the Circle K off I-15, Sam’s Club, Murphy Express on City Centre and Circle K on Firestone Boulevard also reporting some of the lowest prices in the state.

Gas prices in Colorado are averaging $4.05 a gallon as of Friday and $4.02 in Boulder County, according to AAA. The national average for gas is $3.97.

According to AAA, prices for gas are falling due to a mixture of the cost of oil going down and lower demand for gas as Americans change their driving habits due to the record high pump prices this summer. A survey by the company found that nearly two-thirds of drivers have changed their driving habits or lifestyles since March.

“Oil is the primary ingredient in gasoline, so less expensive oil is helpful in taming pump prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in a release. “Couple that with fewer drivers fueling up, and you have a recipe for gas prices to keep easing.”

The national average for a gallon of gas has dropped below $4 per gallon for the first time since March 5, according to AAA. Colorado and Arizona have seen the largest decreases in gas prices over the past week, dropping 21 cents per gallon.
