On Saturday, February 2nd, from 2-9 pm, Downtown Longmont will host the inaugural kickoff of the Winter Walkabout Music Showcase. More than 30 musical performances from artists all along the Front Range are set to happen in 13 different indoor venues throughout the Creative District of Longmont.
A comprehensive $25 ticket allows attendees access to every show, as well as a number of food and drink specials at many of the public venues. A list of these specials will be included below. There are also a set number of VIP tickets that can be purchased for $50 each, which will grant entrance into the Artists’ After-Party from 9-10:30 pm. VIP ticket holders will get a chance to meet and hear some of their favorite local artists collaborate in an impromptu jam session.
The idea for this event comes from Longmont Downtown Development Event Coordinator Colin Argys and Jessica Carson, founder of local rock band Clandestine Amigo. With the sheer number of talented musical artists in the area, both of them saw an opportunity to bring the community together to listen to some local tunes.
Jessica’s understanding of the local music scene helped bring the project together as she was able to draw on a wide range of different artists from different genres. Concert goers can expect to hear rock, bluegrass, classical tunes, blues, Americana, jazz, country, solo singer/songwriters, cover bands and more.
“The Longmont community is notoriously supportive of live music, and there is palpable excitement building for this inaugural event,” Carson explains. “This event is designed to turn Downtown Longmont into a music enthusiast’s dream with a variety of shows at venues within walking distance of each other.”
“When a community like Longmont comes together to host and support an event like this, it is a wonderful thing. It’s one thing to go to a big concert or a major music festival, but it’s special when the people performing might be your neighbor or coworker, and you might run into a handful of people you know at each venue,” said Colin Argys. “I think it would be awesome, if there’s enough interest, that we can put something like this together again in the future. Multi-venue music festivals happen regularly in other places, so it would be great if we could have something like this on a regular basis in Longmont”.
This event would not be happening if it were not for the support of TBK Bank, The Longmont Downtown Development Authority, KGNU Community Radio, KUNC 91.5 FM, 105.5 FM The Colorado Sound, Oskar Blues, and Ron’s Printing Center.
