Morning Brief: Skyline Kiwanis Donated $12,000 to the City of Longmont for the 4th of July Fireworks Show

Presented by Amy Hennion, Sr. Fire Code Inspector, Skyline Kiwanis donated $12,000 for the 4th of July fireworks show.

Members of the Skyline Kiwanis club presented the donation to the City of Longmont. Those present to give the check to the City were Dennis Ogden and members of the Skyline Kiwanis club.

Skyline Kiwanis President, Scott Nix, wishes to make the fireworks show, "the best in the region."

Nix also said, "the fireworks should be funded by the public." This may be the last year Kiwanis Club donates money to the fireworks show, Nix states that funding "shouldn't be through tax payer dollars."

City of Longmont Invites Citizens to Apply for Boards and Commissions

The City of Longmont welcomes citizens to serve on boards and commissions throughout the city. "The committees serve as advisory groups helping City Council learn about and make decisions on a wide variety of issues that affect the safety, economy and quality of life of Longmont's citizens and businesses," states a press release from the City of Longmont.

Board members will:

  • Research and discuss local issues
  • Offer recommendations to Longmont City Council
  • Spend a few hours a month preparing for and attending meetings hosted in a Longmont City building

There is currently a vacancy on the Longmont Housing Authority board.

In order to apply, applicants must be a registered voter of Longmont for one year prior to being appointed and must reside within the Longmont City limits.

Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce Upcoming Ribbon Cuttings

The Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) holds ribbon cutting ceremonies twice a week. Ribbon cuttings are a celebration of the new business joining the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce and are free to attend and open for the public.

On June 19, LACC will welcome The Hop from 4-5 p.m. at 300 Suns Brewery, 335 1st Ave., Longmont. This event will celebrate The Hop's first anniversary as well as their ribbon cutting.

The Hop is a mobile vintage shop run by a husband and wife duo. This unique boutique carries "the fashion, design and lifestyle of 40's, 50's & 60's," is stated on the LACC website.

On June 22, LACC will welcome Flatirons Family Pharmacy, located at 603 Ken Pratt Blvd., Longmont, from 4-5 p.m. This will be a celebration of the Flatirons Family Pharmacy's extended space.
