In January 2018, La Mariposa, a Mexican restaurant and margarita house, began their application to open an 8,000 sq ft restaurant in the Longmont Business Center, located between Hover St. and Dry Creek.

La Mariposa received the first review letter from the Development Review Team on March 1, 2018, and the City of Longmont Development Review Team is requiring at least another submission before the application goes to a public hearing, said Rigo Leal, public information officer for the City of Longmont.

"We have not received a second submission as of present. The estimated public hearing date will occur when we are in the midst of this review," stated Leal in an email to the Longmont Observer on May 15th.

It is currently unknown if La Mariposa is planning on moving to the potential new location or opening a second location in Longmont. The current location at 1240 Ken Pratt Blvd "will be open for more than a year," according to staff at La Mariposa.

ArtWalk Longmont This Weekend

ArtWalk Longmont takes place Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. throughout Downtown Longmont. The event will feature: interactive activities, artist booths, sidewalk sales, live music, free face painting, businesses and galleries open with special performances, exhibits and showcases. Over 50 artists are participating in this weekend's ArtWalk.

The ArtWalk mission statement is, "ArtWalk is a cultural event series in Longmont for arts lovers and future arts lovers. We connect arts, business, nonprofit, and education to celebrate local creativity.”

"By emphasizing Longmont's vibrant arts and creative community, and the creative endeavors of our local businesses, we are able to showcase Longmont and gather as a community in an event like no other," stated Brandy Coons, executive director of ArtWalk.

ArtWalk is a free to the public event due to time donated by volunteers and the support of over two dozen businesses and local government. "Most anyone you meet at ArtWalk contributes to its success by volunteering their time or finances. So hug a small business owner," states Coons.

According to their website, "ArtWalk Longmont began as a monthly gallery hop, asking businesses to partner by hosting art and music, and transforming their storefronts into art galleries for three annual ArtWalk events. This tradition continues, with artists applying for placement within venues each year."

Visitors to the event can pick up a map at participating locations or at the Info Booth. The Callahan House, located at 3rd and Terry, will be open to visitors on the day of the event. The Callahan House will also be hosting local artists and artisans on Saturday.
