Beginning today, June 29, through Sunday, July 1, Magic Fairy Candles and Kitchen Co. will be celebrating their first anniversary with a three day event. The event will include, "sales, prizes, food and drinks for the whole weekend," is stated in a Facebook post.

The event will take place all weekend during regular business hours between the two stores. Magic Fairy Gifts is located at 634 Main St. and Kitchen Co. is located at 464 Main St.

According to Lisa Patchem, owner of Magic Fairy Gifts, the two stores decided to celebrate together because, "We both opened the same day last year, July 01. I've gotten to know and learn from Kirsten (owner of Kitchen Co.) and respect her as a business owner. Seemed only appropriate that this year, we join forces and create a fun event for Downtown!"

At the time of the deadline for this article Kirsten, owner of Kitchen Co. was not available to provide more information about her store. However, Patchem shared some information with the Longmont Observer regarding Magic Fairy Candles.

Patchem says that the best moment over the last year was that, "we were able to grow and expand our shop. We've doubled in size which means we can offer more gifts and carry more local artists." And that her biggest surprise was, "the increase of foot traffic this summer vs last summer. A lot more people are moving to Longmont and are discovering all the unique shops and restaurants Downtown."

"My favorite part of my job is to hear all the little stories customers tell me. They connect with a gift as it reminds them of their loved one. I get to hear little snipbits of how this little trinket tray is perfect for sister, or how this aroma reminds them of their childhood. Since I purchase all the goods in my store, it warms my heart to hear how my choices bring joy to people's lives," tells Patchem.

Patchem would also like to say, "Thank you to all of our customers. We love you! We wouldn't be here without them!"

Civic Center Construction Notice

The following is a press release from the City of Longmont and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public notice.

Noisy work will continue on the west plaza level. Activities include sawcutting, jackhammering, drilling, etc. Expect heavy noise work through the first week of July with intermittent noise for the duration of the project.

The sidewalk and some parking in front of the building on Kimbark Street will be closed. Crews will be removing trees and bushes, demolition of the stairs, and performing soil excavation to prepare for garage beam placement. This closure will be in effect through mid-July.

There will be no work on Wednesday, July 4, in honor of the Independence Day holiday.

Throughout the construction phase, entrance into the building can be accessed via the south entrance located on 3rd Avenue, east entrance located on Emery Street, or the north entrance. The north

entrance to the Civic Center provides ADA accessibility.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The $5 million parking garage renovation project is needed to update the failing existing post tension supports of the structure, which were installed when the garage was built in 1975. To bring the building to code standards, new external post tension supports will be installed and new concrete overlay will be applied. Although the garage is in need of structural repairs, the offices located above the garage are safely supported. Offices located above the garage include: City Manager’s office, Finance and Utility Billing office, Human Resources, Risk Management, Neighborhood Resources, and CDBG.
