In November, NextLight — Longmont’s high-speed fiber connection — will turn 10 and the city of Longmont is planning a big celebration.
“Our residents have wholeheartedly supported NextLight from the beginning,” City Manager Harold Dominguez said. “With our community behind us, we’ve seen our homegrown internet service become a national leader, demonstrating the kind of high-quality service that becomes possible when your customers are also your neighbors. This milestone isn’t just a celebration for NextLight, but for all of Longmont.”
The celebration will take place on Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at the Parkway Food Hall at 700 Ken Pratt Blvd. #200. The event will have free food, door prizes, giveaways, NextLight themed mocktails and 10% coupons for the food hall.
Also to mark the celebration, NextLight is offering discounts to new and existing customers. New customers who sign up for a gigabit connection or faster by Dec. 31 will receive a lifetime $10 per month discount bringing their fee to $59.95 per month. Existing customers can receive the same discount for upgrading their service to a gigabit or faster connection.
Customers who refer a friend can receive a $100 bill credit when they sign up for NextLight Service before Dec. 31.
NextLight has contributed a lot to the city of Longmont over the past decade. It was the first municipal internet service in the state and broke ground for other communities such as Estes Park, Loveland and Fort Collins to follow.
It also contributed to Longmont being recognized for several national awards including the All-American City award in 2018, being name one of the nation’s best cities to work from home in 2022, the best gaming ISP in the nation by PC Magazine in 2023 and winning the PC Magazine Reader’s Choice and Employee’s Choice awards in 2023. Currently, NextLight is up for another award. It is a finalist for the Best Municipal or Public Connectivity Program at the Broadband Nation Awards in Washington D.C.
“We’ve been excited to see how our residents and businesses have used NextLight to not only meet their needs but empower the Longmont community,” said Valerie Dodd, NextLight’s executive director. “As ultra-fast broadband service becomes more critical than ever to our daily lives, we’re looking forward to the next 10 years of continued focus on our network and partnership with our customers.”
