Monster Beverage Corporation, energy drink maker Monster Energy, is set to purchase CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective LLC, and with it several brands including the Colorado-founded Oskar Blues.

In an announcement Jan. 13, Monster Beverage confirmed that it has a “definitive agreement” to acquire CANarchy for $330 million in cash. The sale is predicted to finalize in Q1 2022, according to the release.

CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective’s portfolio includes Cigar City Brewing, Squatters Craft Beers, Wasatch Brewery, Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Perrin Brewing Company, and Revitalyte, along with Oskar Blues. The Lyons-founded brewing company with locations in Longmont also makes Wild Basin Hard Seltzer.

The release stated that CANarchy will function independently and that the transaction does not include CANarchy’s independent restaurants. The brewery collective “will function independently, retaining its own organizational structure and team,” and be led by CANarchy’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Short.

“The team at CANarchy is thrilled to be joining Monster,” Short said in a statement. “We look forward to capitalizing on the combined expertise of Monster and CANarchy to further strengthen our current alcoholic product offerings, expand our product portfolio to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and to grow our business.”

According to the announcement, the addition of CANarchy is Monster Beverage’s expansion into alcoholic beverages.

“The addition of CANarchy and its brands to the Monster beverage portfolio represents an excellent opportunity to further grow our already robust product offerings,” said Monster’s Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Rodney Sacks in a released statement. “We are excited to build and expand upon CANarchy’s existing brands with innovative new products.”
