Stacy Cornay elected to serve as Local Business Advisory Committee chair

Longmont, CO: The Longmont Economic Development Partnership (EDP) Local Business Advisory Committee today announced the election of Stacy Cornay to serve as Chair for a one-year term. Cornay, founder and owner of Communication Concepts Public Relations & Advertising, has served as a Local Business Advisory Committee member since the committee was founded a year ago and also serves on the Longmont EDP Board of Directors.

“Stacy’s passion for all things business and all things Longmont, as well as her expertise in communication and planning strategy make her a great fit to serve as Chair of the Local Business Advisory Committee as the group seeks to grow their reach and impact in support of Longmont’s local business sector,” stated Longmont EDP President and CEO Jessica Erickson.

This group of volunteer local business representatives serves to provide on-going dialog around the challenges and opportunities of doing business in the City of Longmont.  Over the past year, the Local Business Advisory Committee has taken on a variety of projects and initiatives in support the local business community and has assisted and advised Longmont City Council as they consider policy that will have an impact on Longmont’s local businesses in the community.

Since the Committee was first formed in July of 2016, the Committee has researched and provided the Mayor and City Council positions around Windy Gap financing, initiatives to address the growing homeless and panhandling populations, and the allowance of retail marijuana shops in the City of Longmont.  The Committee in partnership with the Longmont Downtown Development Authority and other local non-profits developed and made widely available online resources for local business owners to assist with homeless populations around their businesses, as well as a piece to assist homeless and panhandling populations to connect with available local resources to assist them.  The Committee is in the process of assisting the City to develop a new workshop targeted at small business owners to educate and support them with the building and permitting process in Longmont.

“I am very honored to serve as the Chair of this group of dedicated business people. We represent many different businesses, geographic areas, and perspectives. Our common theme is to continually work to ensure that Longmont remains a wonderful place in which to locate a business” said Cornay in a prepared statement.

In addition to Ms. Cornay’s appointment as Chair, the committee today also welcomed two new members: Savannah Johnson, owner of Downtown retail home goods and accessories store Yore; and Jay Minaya, founder, and Spanish and English Communications Specialist at Longmont-based Journey Language Center.
