Maria West is the week one Alfalfa's gift card winner.
As the grand opening of Alfalfa's Market draws near, the store teamed up with The Leader to offer email newsletter subscribers the opportunity to win one of three gift cards. The first week offered subscribers a chance to win $100.
Names for the giveaway were drawn at random.
West met Chris Epp, design coordinator for Alfalfa's Market at the Longmont location on Friday to accept the gift card and take a photo.
West said she was grateful to have won, however, instead of using the card for a special occasion she asked if Epp would mind if she donated it to the OUR Center.
"Thank you Chris and Matt for affording me this opportunity to donate to Our Center! The caring culture of Longmont is one of the reasons I love living here," West said via email Friday.
Epp said that Alfalfa's Market and the OUR Center are food resucue partners. This means Alfalfa's donates food that is near its experation date to the nonprofit to distrubute to those who are food insecure.
The week two winner will receive a $200 gift card. The winner has been drawn and notified. The Leader is waiting for the person to accept before announcing the name.
There is still one week left to become an email newsletter subscriber. The last week of the giveaway begins Monday. A winner for the $300 gift card to mark the grand opening of Alfalfa's Market in Longmont will be drawn on Friday, Oct. 30.
