For the fifth year in a row, the Longmont Public Library has invited patrons to create dioramas using PEEPS. The theme is centered around the patron's favorite literary scene.

The diorama were displayed in the lobby of the library from April 12-18.

This contest is not unique to Longmont's library. According to Librarian Josie Brockmann, she first saw a PEEP diorama contest hosted by the Washington Post. She later learned that libraries across the country adopted the contest for their patrons.

Brockmann decided to suggest the idea to the Longmont Library because she thought our residents might enjoy the marshmallow fun. She was right and 65 entries were made in this year's contest.

" We continue to do the contest every year for a number of reasons; it is lots of fun for those who make the dioramas and for those of us who get to see them, it brings people into the library to look at them and because people have come to expect it.  The dioramas put a smile on everyone’s face," says Brockmann.

Winners were announced on April 19 and include:
* Best Adult Diorama (ages 14+) -- Peeping Through the Looking Glass
* Best Tween Diorama (ages 9-13)-- The Very Nearly Honorable League of Peeps
* Best Kid Diorama (ages 8 and younger)-- My Neighbor Peeporo
* Best Transformation of a Peep-- The Very Hungry Caterpeeper
* Best Diorama Title-- Frankly My Dear I don’t give a peep
* “Peeple’s” Choice (the winner of the public vote) -- Horton Hears a Peep
* Library’s Choice (voted on by library staff)-- We’re Not in Kansas Anymore

"The winners do get a prize.  This year they got Peep themed items like a blanket, a beach towel, earphones, water bottles and toys.  I didn’t think anyone would want more Peep marshmallows," say Brockmann.
