The phone at 300 Suns Brewery rang at 9 a.m. on Monday. The Denver Post was on the other side of the line and declared the brewery to be home of Denver’s best spicy chicken sandwich.

After a grueling voting competition between 32 of Colorado’s favorite restaurants hosted by The Denver Post, 300 Suns came out on top. Dave’s Hot Chicken — a restaurant chain with 107 locations worldwide — was the runner-up.

“We’ve had a massive amount of community support with our staff and our neighbors that help promote it and cast votes. It was a Longmont community effort in helping a local business go against a national chain with over a hundred locations,” said chef and creator of the award-winning chicken sandwich, Nate Say.

The sandwich is “hand-battered, soaked in buttermilk overnight, seasoned with a flour mixture, fried to order and brushed with hot chili oil,” according to The Denver Post.

Say created the sandwich after visiting Nashville and taste-testing an abundance of Nashville hot chicken. He meshed the classic Nashville chicken flavors with a unique Colorado twist, producing the sandwich that’s gained popularity in the Mile High City.

300 Suns Brewery’s doors have seen an influx of customers eager to try the sandwich.

“We’re going to get through the wave of craziness the contest has brought us … and celebrate,” Say said.
