Coloradans can celebrate by learning more of the state's history
USED 04 04 2022 (26)

Monday marks Colorado Day, when Colorado joined the union and became a state in 1876.

Colorado's bid for statehood was originally vetoed by President Andrew Johnson. Its second attempt was successful on Aug. 1, 1876, which coincided with the country's centennial celebrations, forever marking Colorado as the Centennial State.

On Aug. 1, Coloradans can gain entrance to all state parks for free. The History Colorado Museum will also offer free admission. There patrons can engage with Colorado-themed activities and attractions.

Those looking to learn more about Colorado's history are invited to the Governor's residence at Boettcher Mansion from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required.

“Colorado day is an opportunity to celebrate our beautiful state, support our small businesses, visit one of our world-class state parks for free, and experience everything Colorado has to offer,” Gov. Jared Polis said.
