As of 1:15 p.m. an air quality advisory is in effect for Broomfield, Louisville, Superior and Layfayette. The advisory may not be exclusive to these areas.
The advisory is issued due to the heavy smoke in the areas caused by the Marshall fire which broke out in Boulder County around noon today due to high winds downing power lines. The fires have spread into parts of Superior causing several structure fires.
The advisory recommends people to remain indoors if smoke becomes thick in your neighborhood. These recommendations are especially important for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young and the eldery.
If smoke is present indoors, people are instructed to relocate temporarily. Levels are considered unhealthy with visibility due to smoke is less than five miles.
The wind is expected to decrease during the late afternoon and early evening hours which should decrease fire activity and smoke production.
