Arrests made in early-morning drive-by shooting on Flagstaff Road

One adult and one juvenile charged with attempted murder

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office issued two arrest warrants for the early-morning drive-by shooting which took place May 13 on Flagstaff Road, in unincorporated Boulder County, after conducting a search warrant at a residence in unincorporated Adams County, near the intersection of Highway 36 and N. Pecos St. Detectives also impounded multiple vehicles involved in the crimes and are continuing to interview witnesses.

The victims had been shot by a passing vehicle while standing outside their parked vehicle at the Crown Rock Trailhead, a City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks property. The victims in the shooting were a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male. The 17-year-old victim sustained a serious injury to his leg that required surgery at a local emergency medical facility. The 18-year-old victim had a minor injury and was treated and released.

Two people have been arrested on the following charges:

  • Jafet Hernandez Gonzalez, 21-year-old male
    • 1st Degree Attempted Murder (2 counts), 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Felony Menacing
  • 17-year-old male (his name is not being released due to his age)
    • 1st Degree Attempted Murder (2 counts), 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Felony Menacing

Additional charges will be filed in the near future, as there were multiple people present during the shooting.

As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
