Asphalt paving operations are set to begin on Monday, June 19, on Main Street between 3rd and 9th Avenues and are expected to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting. This is the second phase of the Main Street Rehabilitation project, part of the City of Longmont’s Annual Pavement Management Program. It follows the completion of concrete repairs to upgrade curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and repair sidewalks and crosswalks.

Asphalt Specialties Company will install crack prevention reinforcement and an asphalt overlay to improve the road surface and reduce future maintenance. Traffic patterns and parking restrictions will be similar to the first phase of construction.

For two weeks, north and southbound traffic between 3rd and 6th Avenues will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to one side of the Main Street center medians. Cross-traffic will be prohibited at Main Street from each Avenue. Parking will not be allowed during weekdays on either side of Main Street but will be available on the weekends.

Starting after the July 4th holiday, paving operations will progress north between 6th and 9th Avenues for approximately two weeks. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the center two lanes or outside lanes of Main Street depending on construction activities. Cross-traffic will be prohibited at Main Street from Longs Peak and 8th Avenue. Parking on Main Street in active construction areas will also be prohibited. All traffic patterns and parking will return to normal on the weekends.

Pedestrian access will remain open for all businesses and residents during this phase of construction. Mid-block crosswalks will be closed for the first two weeks and pedestrians and bicyclists will need to cross Main Street at the Avenues with the assistance of a traffic control flagger. RTD bus stops on Main Street will remain closed with temporary locations on Coffman and Kimbark Streets.
