Bird activists are inviting everyone to observe Longmon’s bank swallow population on Sunday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The bank swallows migrate 6,000 miles to nest and have babies in Longmont every spring. Their habitat at Rogers Grove is not replicable and although the nesting area survived the 2014 flood, there are concerns that planned flood mitigation on the St. Vrain greenway will destroy the nesting area.
People are asked to meet at Rogers Grove Pavillion on Sunday and bring water and binoculars. Birders and scopes will be set up for great viewing, organizers said.
