The City of Longmont announced on July 29 that the route for the annual Boulder County Fair Parade, which will occur on August 2 at 10 a.m., has been changed due to construction being done for the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project.
“We understand that this route change may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as the City works to transform downtown,” the city said in a statement.
According to the city, the parade will be staged around Roosevelt Park and will take Longs Peak Avenue across Coffman Street to Main Street, turn right, and travel down Main Street. It will turn left at 4th Avenue and come back up Kimbark Street to Longs Peak Avenue, returning to Roosevelt Park crossing Longs Peak and Coffman.
Main Street will still be closed at 3rd Avenue on August 2 to “better control traffic and provide for participant safety, even though the parade route turns at 4th Avenue,” the city said. 4th Avenue will also be closed between Kimbark and Emery Streets from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an annual Pancake Breakfast before the parade.
The parade is part of the annual Boulder County Fair, which will occur from August 6 through August 10 at 9595 Nelson Road, in Longmont. The parade, which has been an annual event since 1869, consists of floats, horses, bands, and more.
The Coffman Street Mobility Project aims to make Coffman Street a “world-class, multi-modal corridor for buses, cars, bicycles, and pedestrians,” and is part of the City of Longmont’s efforts to “transform” downtown Longmont. Construction is scheduled to last until 2026.
