A man was arrested by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office on July 11 for five counts of class 5 felony gun menacing after he allegedly fired a rifle in the direction of five teenagers who were trespassing on a neighboring property. The incident occurred at about 6:55 p.m. on July 10 when BCSO responded to a trespassing complaint in the 3000 block of 63rd Street. After speaking with the three 16-year-old males and two 15-year-old males, deputies learned that an unknown male fired a rifle.
The deputies followed a vehicle of interest after getting a description of the suspect and arrested Kurt Erickson, 50, without incident. Records show Erickson was booked into the Boulder County Jail in the early morning hours of Friday, July 11. The latest status update shows Erickson was still in custody on Saturday afternoon and a formal filing of charges was set for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15.
Deputies collected a .22 LR rifle, a spent casing, and narcotics — opium or a derivative. In addition to the five felony menacing charges, Erickson also faces a class four felony charge for unlawful possession for having more than four grams of a controlled substance. He is also charged with prohibited use of a weapon, five counts of reckless endangerment, and two counts of child abuse. There are six total felony charges and eight misdemeanor charges.
The children were released to their parents and issued a warning for trespassing.
