Boulder County Public Health Executive Director Camille Rodriguez has resigned from her role with the agency after a year on the job.

A special meeting on Wednesday, the Boulder County Board of Health appointed Deputy Director Lexi Nolen to the role of interim executive director for six months with a possible extension. Nolen has previously served as acting executive director during the previous search for a director.

Rodriguez’s resignation is effective July 1. Board of Health President Gregg Thomas said during the special meeting that she resigned to pursue a new opportunity.

Rodriguez took over as public health’s executive director in June 2021 after Jeff Zayach retired from 12 years in the position. Rodriguez, the first Latina to lead Boulder County Public Health, guided the health department through several public health emergencies, including the omicron surge and Marshall fire.

“Ms. Rodriguez has been a committed public servant, and we are grateful for her public health expertise and guidance throughout the past year,” Nolen said in a release. “We wish Camille the best and appreciate her willingness to assist with a smooth transition. Until a new executive director is appointed, I look forward to ensuring BCPH continues creating a socially just and inclusive community where all people have an opportunity for a healthy life.”

The board of health will oversee the process of permanently filling the position and ensure a smooth transition for staff, partners and community, the release added.
