Breaking news: Family uninjured in Longmont house fire

Two dogs dead, house heavily damaged Wednesday night

A family escaped a house fire unharmed Wednesday night, though two family dogs did not make it.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a home on the 1200 block of Bross Street around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to Robin Ericson, spokesperson for Longmont Public Safety.

While the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes, the home sustained significant damage according to Ericson.

Ericson added that neither the family nor any firefighters were injured.

The fire occurred in the home's front room near an electrical outlet. Investigators determined that the fire was likely a result of an overheated item plugged into the outlet or an unknown electrical failure at or near the outlet, Ericson said in an update Thursday afternoon.

She added that window sheers along the window near the outlet likely came in contact with the hot electrical, igniting a fire that rapidly progressed to the room and its contents.
