Update: As of 2:06 p.m. the Longmont Emergency Notification System has given the All Clear for the areas surrounding Sicily Drive. Routine activities and traffic in the area can resume as normal.

Around 1 p.m. today the city of Longmont Emergency Notification System alerted residents in southwest Longmont to shelter in place due to a police operation in the area.

At the current time, Longmont Public Safety is only releasing information that there is a police operation and that police are in the area of Sicily Drive. They are asking that residents shelter in place until further notice.

The impacted area includes north/south from Clover Basin Drive to Plateau Road and east/west from Airport Road to 75th Street.

Schools in the area — Altona Middle School, Eagle Crest Elementary, Blue Mountain Elementary, Silver Creek High School and Westview Middle School — have been placed on secure status, according to Kerri McDermid, chief communications and global impact officer at St. Vrain Valley Schools.

The incident is taking place in a surrounding neighborhood and does not involve any of the area schools.

According to a letter sent to parents, all students remain safe and classroom activities are continuing.

The shelter in place order will remain in effect until the event is resolved, which, at this time, is unknown to police officers.

The Longmont Leader will update this article as more information becomes available.
