Boulder County is responding to a mid-air plane crash that has killed at least three people.
Just before 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the Boulder County Communications Center received multiple phone calls regarding two planes colliding mid-air, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. First responders went to the area of 10,000 Niwot Road and discovered two separate crash sites.
The first crashed aircraft was found in the 10,000 block of Niwot Road on the south side. The sheriff’s office said at this time there were two confirmed occupants in the aircraft, both of whom were dead upon first responders arriving.
The second crashed aircraft was found in the 9,700 block of Niwot Road on the north side. At this time there is one confirmed occupant and this individual was also deceased when first responded arrived on scene.
None of the decedents have been identified at this time, the sheriff’s office said. The investigation is still in progress.
The National Transportation Safety Board tweeted that they were investigating the case and that it involved a Cessna 172 and a Sonex Xenos.
