Centura offering bonuses for night nursing help

$30,000 bonus
Longmont United Hospital

Centura Health is offering $30,000 bonuses to registered nurses who work the night shift at its health sites in Colorado and western Kansas. Longmont United Hospital is part of the Centura Health system.

As of Nov. 2, 2022, RNs with at least six months of direct experience who join Centura’s healing ministry through Jan. 31, 2023 are eligible for the $30,000 bonus if they agree to serve patients for one year in a full-time or part-time role, according to a Centura Health news release.

The offer applies to Centura’s hospital, emergency/urgent care and resource pool positions that are viewable on  Centura’s Careers webpage and coded as “Nights”. Re-hired RNs are eligible if they have been separated from Centura for more than six months, the news release states.

The offer is in response to a critical shortage of nurses across the country, say health officials.

According to the United States Registered Nurse Workforce Report Card and Shortage Forecast published in the September/October 2019 issue of the American Journal of Medical Quality, a shortage of registered nurses is projected to spread across the country through 2030. In this state-by-state analysis, the authors forecast a significant RN shortage in 30 states with the most intense shortage in the Western region of the U.S.

“During this especially challenging time for the healthcare industry, it is critically important to us that we continue to recruit compassionate caregivers with fair, just and competitive compensation,” said Brenda Simpson, DNP, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer in the news release.

“We know health care is better where we are, and we are excited to welcome many more nurses to our healing ministry and our vision of making every community, every neighborhood and every life – whole and healthy,” the news release states.

Centura adopted a 3%, across-the-board base pay increase for nearly 18,000 associates in October, as well as living wage increases for Colorado and Kansas caregivers that are higher than state minimums, the news release states.

Centura in 2022 also began offering a student loan forgiveness program and an increase in tuition reimbursement, as well as a company-funded childcare FSA option. These adjustments follow an investment in Centura employees of more than $200 million in 2021 in compensation and benefits, Centura states..
