The City of Longmont wants the FAA to amend the rules around noise levels produced by aircraft.

On May 11th, the Mayor of Longmont, Dennis Coombs, sent Ken Buck, one of Colorado's representatives to the US Congress, a letter, asking him participate in cosponsoring an amendment with Representative Jared Police, that would amend the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2017 in ways that would help Longmont (and other communities with airports) to have more local control for the owners and sponsors of airports, in particular, general aviation airports.

According to the letter, sent by Mayor Coombs, the amendment would:

  • Allow airports to restrict certain types of aircraft from operating at the airport.
  • Allow airports to restrict the hours of operation.
  • Allow airports to restrict operators from operating on certain days.

This request is in keeping with Longmont's local government preference of municipal control over municipal resources being preferred, first, over state and then federal control.

The Longmont Observer contacted Ken Bucks office Thursday morning, June 1st, but has not receivedĀ a comment on this story yet.
