If you are a subscriber to the City of Longmont’s eNotification service, you may have experienced an outage this past week.
Susan Wolak, web coordinator of the City of Longmont, wrote in an email to the Longmont Observer that “maybe 1,000” people were affected. "It depends on which category someone has signed up to receive,” Wolak wrote. “It is working again."
eNotifications, a City of Longmont's service, sends news and calendar notifications directly to email addresses.
According to Wolak, the reason behind the outage is “something happened to our component that is a part of our website CMS that prevented emails from being sent. When we learned of it, we submitted a request to our vendor to fix it. We were told they were looking into it for us and would let us know when they resolved the issue.”
The City of Longmont will not be paying to fix the outage as it is part of their ongoing support.
The Longmont Observer first noticed that something had gone awry after noticing a lack of eNotifications. After checking our email account, the Longmont Observer had not received an eNotification email from the City of Longmont since November 30, 2017 at 2:52 PM. The Longmont Observer sent an email to Sandra Seader, assistant city manager, to notify her of the issue.
The date or time that the outage began isn’t currently known. "We don’t send emails out daily but I know that it was not working for me on Dec. 7,” wrote Wolak.
So, what will the City of Longmont do to prevent this from happening in the future?
“Have staff who use the system keep an eye on it and make sure that they receive the email,” wrote Wolak.
