LONGMONT, Colo. – The Longmont Museum is beginning construction to expand their galleries following a successful and ongoing multi-million dollar capital campaign. The expansion will bring a new children’s gallery with interactive play spaces, a larger feature gallery for adult-focused art exhibits, and a redesigned permanent history gallery.
Construction kicks off with a groundbreaking event on Wednesday, July 23, at 8:30 am. This free event held at the Museum will share renderings, project details and remarks from Museum Director Erik Mason. Light refreshments will be served, and no RSVP is needed to attend.
The construction follows multiple years of program growth, evaluation and community conversations about needs and priorities for the cultural facility. “The expansion is not just about bricks and mortar,” said Mason, “It’s about making the Museum more responsive to our community.”
The Museum’s outdoor Stewart Family Courtyard was redeveloped as part of an earlier phase of this project, now featuring a new stage and twice as much space for concerts and events.
The full expansion is expected to be complete by fall of 2026. Throughout construction, the Museum’s galleries and exhibits will be closed; however, the many programs hosted by the Museum, such as art classes for adults and children, camps, films, concerts, talks, historic tours and more, will continue uninterrupted.
“Our many generous supporters, including the Stewart Family Foundation, the City of Longmont, and more than 400 individuals, foundations and corporations, have been instrumental in getting us to this milestone,” said Mason. “Your belief in what the Longmont Museum can be for our community has made this bold step forward a reality.”
The Museum continues to fundraise to build the exhibitions for the new galleries and is recognizing all contributions at any level on a donor wall.
