Today, the city of Longmont announced it would once again resume utility disconnections for those who have past due balance for more than 36 days beginning July 26.

In March 2020, the city of Longmont suspended all utility disconnections in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other area municipalities have resumed disconnections including Loveland in July 2020, Xcel Energy in September 2020, Colorado Springs in October 2020 and Fort Collins in November 2020, according to a news release from the city of Longmont.

The city of Longmont currently reports 3,000 customers who have past due bills 37 days or longer, “including some that predate the pandemic,” states the news release.

Past due customers can expect to see letters from the city regarding a potential cutoff of services around July 10. The city is willing to help customers set up a payment plan to avoid their utilities being shut off, according to the release.

“As our community steadily recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic and returns to normal operations, we want to make sure that those residents who have been unable to pay their bills contact us to make arrangements,” City Manager Harold Dominguez said. “These have been extraordinary circumstances, and we want to help everyone get back up to date with their bills with as little disruption as possible.”

Customers can contact the city utility department by phone at 303-651-8664 or by email.

The city of Longmont also is offering opportunities for customers to lower future utility bills through the Colorado Affordable Residential Energy, or CARE, program. This program “provides free home energy assessments and a number of free home energy upgrades to income-qualified residents,” according to the news release.
