A proposed library district for Longmont will be discussed Thursday evening during a joint meeting with the City Council and the St. Vrain Valley School District Board of Education.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the school district’s Innovation Center, 33 Quail Road.

Participants will talk about an upcoming library feasibility study, which is scheduled to be presented next week to the city council. A library district is being advanced as one way to fund the library in the future, Library Director Nancy Kerr told the Leader in March.

The feasibility study also contains information about the status of the Longmont library compared to peer libraries in the state and its future needs, Kerr said.

A group called the Longmont Library District Project is lobbying for a district, saying it would  fund needed improvements for the Longmont facility.

Council and school board members are also expected Thursday to weigh the possibility of including Niwot in the district’s boundaries, according to the agenda.

The school board and city council are also scheduled to talk about childcare and child education goals, housing needs in the St. Vrain District and updates on growth projections for the district.
