The CO 119 Branding and Wayfinding Project has been completed in Boulder County as one piece of the CO 119 Safety, Mobility, and Bikeway Project. The CO 119 project is intended to improve transportation safety and efficiency on the Diagonal Highway, including a nine-mile-long separated bikeway with branded wayfinding signs, and access to the Bus Rapid Transit service. The full project is expected to be completed in 2027.

Community surveys helped shape the design of this project, which has been a  collaborative effort between Commuting Solution, Boulder County, the City of Boulder, the City of Longmont, RTD, and CDOT. The bikeway will be called the Diagonal Bikeway and the bus transit service will be called the Diagonal Flyer. There is a cohesive brand with blue and gold colors used throughout the region.

“Our goal with the new branding and wayfinding system is to create a cohesive and user-friendly experience for all travelers along CO 119,” said Executive Director of Commuting Solutions Audrey DeBarros. “This branding will not only establish a recognizable identity but will also foster ease of use and enhance safety as travelers explore moving between modes of transportation.”

The CDOT project webpage states this project will help mitigate traffic congestion and potentially more crashes as the Diagonal Highway is expected to have a 25-percent increase in traffic by the year 2040. When the project is completed, it is estimated that bus travel will be twice as fast, vehicles will have shorter delays, and all methods of transportation will be safer for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
