The Colorado State Patrol swore in their newest lateral cadets Tuesday, April 4 at the CSP academy in Golden as they begin a 14-week training academy to become Colorado State Troopers.

For the first time since 2017, the Colorado State Patrol is running a “Lateral Academy”, open only to current law enforcement professionals in Colorado with active Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Col. Matthew C. Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol, swore in 10 individuals. These cadets are current law enforcement professionals and will apply themselves to a shortened training regime to assist in learning the policies, procedures and traditions of the Colorado State Patrol.

“The swearing in ceremony is a significant moment in a cadet’s path forward - especially for these lateral cadets dedicated to taking the oath again,” said Packard. “These individuals have previously served their respective communities and the state of Colorado, and we are incredibly proud of the value and experience they will bring to our CSP family.”

The Lateral Academy class is an opportunity for individuals interested in expanding their law enforcement experience and joining the Colorado State Patrol family, which is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for every person in Colorado while upholding its core values of Honor, Duty and Respect.
