Community Foundation, Area Agency on Aging hosting virtual Medicare counseling event

The free session will be presented by Karen Herrera, a bilingual Medicare counselor for Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, who regularly provides assistance on how to apply for Medicare, how to choose the Medicare plan that is right and conducts plan reviews.

The Longmont Community Foundation and Boulder County Area Agency on Aging next week will hold a virtual event on Medicare counseling. 

The event, “Top 5 Reasons to Utilize Medicare Counseling, will be held via Zoom from 1 to 2 p.m. July 2.

The free session will be presented by Karen Herrera, bilingual Medicare counselor for Boulder County Area Agency on Aging. Herrera regularly provides assistance on how to apply for Medicare, how to choose the Medicare plan that is right and conducts plan reviews, according to a Community Foundation email announcing the event.

Topics to be covered are:

  • Information on how to avoid lifelong late enrollment penalties and explanation of how and when to enroll in Medicare.

  • Screening and application information for eligibility on Medicare Savings Program for help paying Part B premiums. Screening and application assistance for the Extra Help program, which helps with prescription drug plans.

  • Explaining differences between original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans via personalized one-on-one counseling.

  • Prescription plan search based on beneficiary medications taken and checking if they are on the formulary.

  • Supplemental/Medigap plan explanation and plan review.
