Fatal crash on Ninth Avenue and Pace Street

Thursday a man driving a stolen vehicle crashed into another car after entering the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Pace Street, killing a 93-year-old man. Today, the Boulder County Coroner's Office identified him as Joe Gold.

Gold died after his Hyundai Santa Fe was hit by the driver of a stolen vehicle. The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as James Kramer (37). Kramer's car had been identified as a stolen car by unmarked police officers earlier in the day. Those officers asked for a marked police vehicle to pursue Kramer, according to Deputy Chief of Police Jeff Satur during a press conference last week.

Kramer sped away from police at a high rate of speed causing police to end the pursuit. Kramer, however, did not slow down and entered the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Pace Street where he crashed his vehicle into Gold's. Shortly after a third vehicle crashed into Gold's car as well.

Gold had just celebrated his 93rd birthday on Oct. 12. He worked in the lumber industry for 38 years before retiring and lived along the Front Range most of his life, most recently a resident of Longmont.

The Coroner's Office is still investigating the manner and cause of Gold's death.
