The City Council Tuesday night will discuss carbon emission goals with the Platte River Power Authority during a work session that begins at 7 p.m.

Council in 2017 approved a proclamation expressing the commitment to work in collaboration with the PRPA and the Longmont Power and Communications to continue to diversify the “energy portfolio” in an effort to achieve a 100% clean, renewable electric supply by 2030, according to a city staff report.

A year later the PRPA board of directors passed a resource diversification policy calling for a 100% non-carbon energy mix by 2030, while maintaining the organization's three pillars to “provide reliable, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable electricity and services,” the staff report states.

The council will review past efforts by PRPA to achieve non-carbon generation and get a resource planning update.
