Michael Gianetti was in his usual routine this morning when about 6:30 a.m. he heard a boom and saw a flash from his garage behind his home at 134 Marshall Place. He got his wife, Lisa, and their dog Zoe, out of the house and called 911.
Gianetti, who owns a hot air balloon business, said he didn't notice anything amiss when he went into his garage last night. He kept two hot air balloons in the garage along with two propane tanks and a furnace, he said.
Fire crews were dispatched at 6:40 a.m. to put out the blaze. The garage was destroyed and the back of the Giannetti home was singed including a patio. Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
No one was injured. But the fire left the family without electricity.
Lashley Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues was closed this morning as Longmont crews worked the scene of the fire, said Longmont public safety spokeswoman Robin Ericson.
