The new head of the Longmont Humane Society says he wants to ensure the nonprofit continues its mission of caring, serving and educating to improve the lives of companion animals.
“The Longmont Humane Society is a community staple — resilient, established and integral to the Front Range,” said Jason Dennision, who was named, this week, as the organization’s next chief executive officer, via news release. “We will continue to provide the important services and programs our animals and community expect and deserve.”
“I’m especially grateful to LHS’s professional staff, hardworking volunteers, dedicated board and generous donors and partners,” Dennison added. “LHS is strong today because of the tireless work of many over the last 50 years.”
The LHS Board of Directors — which selected Dennison — appreciated the work of Interim CEO, Mike Frazho for his leadership over the past few months. His support helped the organization continue to provide quality programs and care to the animals in Longmont and surrounding areas during the recent transition, according to the news release.
Liz Smokowski left LHS in June after nine years as its CEO.
The board of directors focused on finding a passionate leader to build on LHS’s success in caring, serving and educating to improve the lives of companion animals and to guide the organization into the future, the new release states. “We believe that Jason, who comes to us with a deep reservoir of nonprofit executive experience, as well as a profound love for animals, will be that leader for our organization,” LHS Board of Directors President, Lou Cavallo, said in the news release.
Dennison recently participated in the Innovate Longmont program, a startup platform for entrepreneurs to build, launch and grow startups. Prior to Innovate Longmont, Dennison held executive leadership roles in several nonprofit groups leading community development programs, fundraising strategies and building many award-winning teams in Fort Collins, Colorado and Arvada, the news release said.
Dennison will plan LHS’s 50th anniversary in 2022, as well as oversee the planning of the Homeward Bound event on March 16, 2022 — an important fundraising event as the organization continues to adapt during COVID-19, according to the news release.
