Despite big snowstorm, only 200 residents lost power

Most outages were caused by trees and branches falling on power lines.

Longmont Power and Communications received about 200 outage-related calls on Sunday as the winter storm tore into the city, with the greatest number affected at any one time was about 40 customers, Scott Rochat, LPC spokesman said Monday via email.

Outage calls dwindled rapidly after winds died down Sunday night, with only a handful coming in between 6 p.m. and midnight, Rochat said. LPC crews completed their work about 11:30 p.m.

Many of the outages were due to trees or branches that fell on a power line. LPC also received numerous calls from customers whose power was working but who wanted to report a tree or branch on the line, Rochat said.

Some outages did take longer than an hour to correct, due to the difficulty of getting across town during the storm, Rochat said.

There were about a dozen homes where power was shut off due to unsafe conditions, he said. Other than those, all outages were restored.

LPC had six crews out Sunday, in two or three-person teams, Rochat said.

Anyone still having issues with their power, are asked to call LPC at 303-651-8386, he said.
