Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Jim Berthold and I transferred here in 1993 from the Department of Justice. I retired after 32 years of federal service. I worked for SVVSD from 2004-2015.
Why did you run for the school board?
I ran for school board as both my two daughters attended SVVSD and grew into the adults they are today due to their education. Through working 11 years with SVVSD, I learned how important it is for students to have the best opportunity in their education to succeed.
What is your favorite thing about SVVSD?
My favorite thing about SVVSD are the opportunities the district provides for students to achieve their goals through having access to top-notch technology and the Innovation Center programs, as well as the magnitude of extracurricular activities provided.
What do you feel is the biggest way you contribute as a school board member?
I feel the biggest way I contribute to the school board is being an active listener and engaged in board meeting discussions.
Can you share your favorite memory or story about how you interacted with parents, the community and/or students?
I really enjoyed attending graduation in May 2020 and a fundraiser for one of my schools at a local restaurant in town, where I was able to meet with the school and local community.
