The City of Longmont is hosting a grand opening of the Fox Meadows Neighborhood Park on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. The park is located at 636 Deerwood Drive near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Weld County Road #1. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, snacks, refreshments, and games.

The park also has an Art in Public Places (AIPP) installation created by Pavia Justinian, a Colorado-based steel sculptor. The art piece is a “15-foot-tall sculpture of a bugling bull elk standing atop a sculpted rock ledge,” according to the city. The AIPP program has been operating since 1989 to install art pieces in neighborhood parks and civic spaces. Justinian will be at the grand opening event on Saturday.

The press release from the city states that this is one of the oldest sections of the city to not have a neighborhood park. The new park includes chess tables, a half basketball court, a nature discovery area, an official size bocce court, restrooms, playgrounds, shaded shelters, and a zipline.

“We’re delighted to bring such a beautiful and diverse facility to the neighborhood,” said David Bell, the director of parks and natural resources for the City of Longmont. “We suspect the 82 foot-long zipline will be a huge hit with younger visitors, as will be the natural play areas and playgrounds.”
