Longmont Humane Society Offering Reduced Adoption Fee for Pairs of Barn Cats

The adoption fee for a pair of barn cats, which can help with pest control in barns and outdoor spaces, has been reduced by half at the Longmont Humane Society. The shelter currently has more than 20 cats in its possession.

The Longmont Humane Society announced on July 2 that it has more than 20 π™¬π™€π™§π™ π™žπ™£π™œ π™˜π™–π™©π™¨ in the shelter that are in need of π™π™€π™’π™šπ™¨. The shelter is having an adoption special for the cats, in which two barn cats can be adopted for the price of one at $40. The shelter is also offering rabies vaccinations for $30 per cat.

The humane society said that the hardworking barn cats are independent and perfect for barns, shops, or warehouses. Barn cats are semi-domesticated cats that live in a working farm setting, with their purpose being to catch pests like mice. The humane society said that all that the cats require is a warm place to sleep, fresh water, and daily food.

One reason why the shelter is offering the two-for-one adoption special is because most barn cats prefer to live with another cat companion.

The barn cat program operated by the Longmont Humane Society finds homes for cats who “may prefer living in a barn or other outbuilding rather than a home environment.” The shelter said that a barn cat’s ideal home has a barn or other secure outdoor structure, and pet owners should be okay with adopting cats that are “not suitable for indoor pet placement.”

Cats that are placed into the shelter’s barn cat program fall under two main categories: “cats whose litter box habits are not consistent enough to be inside only cats, and cats who are very fearful and unaccustomed to people,” according to the humane society.

The barn cats in the humane society’s possession are spayed and neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and have had general exams. The shelter said that the temperaments of the cats range from “semi-feral to very friendly.”

The Longmont Humane Society will provide resources for new barn cat owners to help the barn cats acclimate to their new environment. The shelter said that those interested in adopting should plan to adopt when there’s no rain predicted for the next 24 hours. “Cats rely on scent from the pads of their feet to find their way back to safety, and rain can wash that away,” the shelter explained. “Help them start off on the right paw.”
