On Saturday, August 9 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City of Longmont will sponsor a free landfill drop day at the Front Range Landfill — one of two events it sponsors each year.

A Free Landfill Drop-Off Day will occur at the Front Range Landfill, located at 1830 County Road 5, in Erie, on August 9 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Longmont residents are allowed to bring one level pick-up truck full of most large items and debris at no charge, sponsored by the City of Longmont. A nonperishable food drive will also take place at the landfill on August 9, presented by Front Range Landfill, and Longmont residents are encouraged to bring donations.

The City of Longmont sponsors two free landfill drop days every year. Another event was hosted in June. Free dump days are often held to reduce illegal dumping and support waste reduction and diversion from landfills.

Longmont residents should bring a current City of Longmont utility bill and identification to prove that they are a city resident in order to have fees waived.

According to the city, the landfill will not accept any appliances including washers, dryers, hot water heaters, coffee makers, or toasters, which are best disposed of through recycling. No electronics such as computers, monitors, or televisions are accepted at the landfill, either, and residents should not bring tires, appliances with Freon, or household hazardous waste. Oversized loads and additional loads will be billed accordingly. All loads must be covered and secured for transport.

“This is your chance to clean house (garage, yard, and shed too!) without paying a dime to dump it,” the city said in a Facebook post. “Please consider recycling or composting items before tossing them — reusing is always cooler than dumping into the landfill.”

The city said that residents can check if their items are recyclable or if they can be dropped at the landfill during Free Landfill Day by visiting the Waste Wizard website.
