High-Speed Crash Into Longmont Building Leads to Reckless Driving Ticket

Nikolaus Jay Finn, 23, was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck the Cambios Torres building. He walked away with minor injuries and a ticket.

On Wednesday, June 25, at around 7:55 p.m., a driver in Longmont crashed into the north wall of the Cambios Torres building in the 900 block of Main Street, according to the communications and marketing manager for Longmont Public Safety, Robin Ericson. The driver was 23-year-old Nikolaus Jay Finn, who was “traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle.” Finn hit a curb, a light pole, and then crashed into the Cambios Torres building.

Finn was the only occupant in the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Ericson said that Finn was issued a ticket for reckless driving, which is a Class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense, and was released.

“Speed limits are established to protect not only drivers but also all motorists on the road, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians,” said Longmont Police Traffic Unit Sergeant Colin Jessen. “We are grateful that no one was seriously injured in this crash, as it was completely avoidable.”
