An adult Warmblood mare named "Sweetie" was trapped in mud and rescued in the afternoon on August 28, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 1:08 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a horse was immersed in mud and stuck in the 6200 block of Plateau Road, which is located in rural Boulder County.
The property owner had found his horse stuck in mud and attempted to free her before becoming stuck in the mud, himself. A neighbor responded to the property owner's calls for help and alerted 911 to the situation.
According to the sheriff's office, responders from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, and Boulder Emergency Squad arrived and worked together to safely free the horse. A veterinarian from VetweRx was also on scene and provided care during the rescue.
Sweetie continues to be evaluated by veterinary personnel, the sheriff's office said.
