The spike in COVID-19 cases in Boulder County prompted Boulder Chief Judge Ingrid Bakke to suspend all jury trials until Jan. 28 in the 20th Judicial District.
Bakke cited the rapid rise of the omicron variant as the reason for her action. Last week, the county recorded its two highest daily case rates of the virus.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in an email the backlog of jury trails remains a concern, but he respects Bakke's decision.
“We are still in the throes of the pandemic, unfortunately. Like each one of us, Judge Bakke is doing her best to balance all the factors and keep community members healthy. Hopefully, we can resume jury trials in February,” Dougherty said.
